It seems so often these days, the stress of every day life, the overwhelming (at times) nature of the information pouring at us through channels like Facebook and Instagram, and the beautiful images we see on other networks like Pinterest have us longing to just get away from it all. But sometimes, a vacation just isn’t in the cards. And even if it is, why limit yourself to a vacation where you have to get away? There is another option right in your backyard, and we definitely think it’s worth exploring! That’s why a staycation is a must-try for every person, couple, or family at least once in their lives if not monthly!
As travel writers/photographers, who also have full time jobs and not to mention a married life, things do get busy! Early last month we decided to take a trip to Malindi and enjoy some much needed vitamin sea. You will have to believe us when we say 3 days is definitely not enough time to fully explore Malindi, but that makes it even better as we have to revisit the place someday soon.
If you are in love with expanse landscapes that are very predominant in Africa and even more so in Kenya then this post is for you. Over the weekend we happened to join a group of friends for an out of town stay at Ol-Talet.
Ol-Talet Cottage is a quaint little self-catered house with a pretty appropriate name – Ol Talet, meaning ‘the place with a view from above’ in Masaai. Another gem of a place tucked away in the picturesque landscapes of The Great Rift Valley, at the edge of Olepolos hill.
Tourism is constantly evolving but there is now an important change in demand and tourist expectation. Sports Tourism is now a significant part of the tourism industry in Kenya, with athletes visiting from countries in Europe, Asia, the US and other parts of the world to train or conduct philanthropic activities. In 2009, Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world in the 100m and 200m, visited Kenya for charity work as did world tennis star Serena Williams in 2010.
Our work schedules have been crazy, limiting our blogging life but we have been sharing a few travel spots on our Instagram Feed Also with the increase in gas prices, traveling has become an expensive affair. That’s why we decided to try out something different and cost effective. A staycation within the city yes, but at a very relaxing spot for a much needed breeze at Waridi Paradise Hotel and Suites. Hell’s Gate National Park is a perfect sequestered weekend gateway yet close to the city.
The park is located in the great Rift valley,Kenya. About 110 km from Nairobi. It covers an area of about 68 square km and is one of the few game parks we have locally where you can walk, run or cycle alongside giraffes, zebras, warthogs, gazelles among others. Nothing beats such an adventure!
Just a short drive from the heart of Nairobi, Kiambethu Farm at Limuru provides a tranquil insight into life on a settler farm. The farm house is set within beautiful gardens surrounded by acres of tea and indigenous forest – home to the Colobus monkey and plenty of other wildlife .
Kiambethu was bought and farmed by AB McDonell in 1910. He was the first person to grow, make and sell tea commercially in Kenya – now one of Kenya’s biggest exports. Five generations have lived on the farm and it is currently run by his granddaughter Fiona Vernon.
It had been on our list of ‘top places to visit’ for years! And it seems we crossed our fingers hard enough because we got to explore the magical Amboseli National Park early this year. We stayed at – a luxury boutique lodge Oltukai Lodge located inside the park.
Many of life’s greatest stories begin with a couple of friends, randomly deciding to jump in a car and drive somewhere. You roll down the windows, turn up the tunes and cruise into brand new adventures. Indeed, there’s nothing better than a good ol’ fashioned road trip.
We recently took one to Taveta on an assignment for Grogan Castle and realized there is so much to see just from the convenience of your car 🙂 Wildlife and photogenic landscapes are plenty in Taveta county.
Uniquely situated on the shoreline of sapphire-blue Lake Elementaita, where hundreds of thousands of birds congregate, the exclusive Sirville Lodge is an area of breathtaking beauty. We were recently invited to do a review of this stunning lodge, and the place blew us away.
